Wednesday 23rd October
Heavy rain early this morning had cleared by the time we headed out and the day turned into a beautiful sunny day by afternoon. Today we opted to do the Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile walking trail leading to historic sites starting at Boston Common and taking us past museums, churches, meeting houses, a ship, Bunker Hill, all part of the story of the American Revolution which of course started here in Boston. There was the Old State House and the current "new" State House which was built in 1798. We passed by Paul Revere's grave and his house. Luckily the Freedom Trail wound it's way through Little Italy - we got some stromboli and prosciutto and salad roll for lunch !
We went on to climb the 294 steps of the Bunker Hill monument..what a view and after that we visited the pier area at harbour side. It must have been school day for excursions as we dodged group after group of school kids at each of the stops.
We also managed a visit to Quincy Market during the day of nearly 21,000 steps and much more than the 2.5 miles, but it was those 294 steps at Bunker Hill that were the hardest, leaving our legs trembling after we had descended.
All in all, another great day in Boston!
