Yesterday we decided we would like to come back into Naples again for a couple of reasons, 1 - to finish some of the districts we didn't cover and 2 - we each needed a haircut. But being a Sunday we thought not many shops would be open, so we booked a boat tour to the Amalfi Coast and revisit Naples on Monday.
When we booked the tour at a ticket counter in the Naples Central train station, we were told the tour would spend some time in the bay of Sorento (not docking), 1 hour spent in Amalfi, and 1 hour spent in Positano, returning to Naples by 17:30. In addition there would also be guided tours at each place and commentary on the boat.
The actual tour had us stopping in the harbour at Sorento for 30 minutes before we headed to Amalfi and passing Capri on the way. We had 3 hours to explore in Amalfi, then back to Positano for only 45 minutes because some of the passengers didn't get back to the boat on time in Amalfi. We dropped some off at Sorento on the way back, arrived at the Naples train station at 19:10 -and ran to get the 19:30 train back to Caserta ! The detailed commentary sounded great for the Italians and group of Germans who were on board. The delivery in English though seemed a lot shorter, maybe we are either very efficient with our language or we didn't quite get the same commentary as the others. Most of the English was distorted and we picked up a few words here and there. Oh well, let the scenery do the talking ! We enjoyed it none the less.
We personally thought it was too much time in Amalfi, we walked to the top of the city's main road to a river and waterfall that ran down from the mountains. The Positano visit was way too short as there were many more interesting back streets to explore. The boat trip itself though was a fantastic way to view the Amalfi Coast from Sorento to Amalfi.
