Day 54 Monday 9th October 2023 -  Trapani
Before leaving we checked out the local bakery for our favourite bread rolls, but alas we were too early and they were not out of the oven yet ! Damn !

We set off on a fairly leisurely drive to Trapani, arriving just after 10:30. Parked our car in the first available not busy spot, and started walking the city streets. First impressions were a bit under-whelming, until we finally reached the old town section close to the port. Trapani is a fishing village with a large fishing fleet. Being a Monday, a lot of the old buildings and businesses were not open. It was still an impressive walk around the old town.

Booked into our accommodation for the next 2 nights and had pizza for dinner.

Day 55 Tuesday 10th October 2023 -  Erice
Today we planned to go to Erice, the old salt pans and maybe a drive to Marsala. We were staying only a short distance from the base of the cable car (Funivia Erice). A 10 minute walk and we were on the cable car for a 20 minute ride up to Erice. Closer to the top there was a bit of a cross wind and we started swinging from side to side a bit, but fortunately not enough that the journey would otherwise be cancelled until finer conditions prevail. An alternative route would be to walk or cycle, or experience a 30 minute drive of the switchback roadway to the top. Erice is a medieval mountain top village, with history dating still much further back. More information :

We ended up spending most of the day up here, so the other planned activites didn't get achieved. Wonderful walk around the city, of course a coffee, and a genevese sweet, which the area is famous for. Back at our room by 16:00

Not to mention the phone link for the schnapps chorus with the Rotate The Ringers.

And, your lovely story about ‘Socks’. It came as a surprise to us all because, to the best of our knowledge ‘Socks’ had not to date featured in any of the posted images.
