Days 26 - Giant's Causeway and Londonderry, Ireland

Tuesday 9th September, 2025 - Londonderry to Galway, Ireland

8.00 am cooked breakfast at the Rose Park Bnb was delightful, we had very friendly hosts and it was a nice stay. On the road by 9.00am heading toward Donegal. We found a park quite close to the centre of town on the other side of the river. We spent an hour wandering around the picturesque centre square. It was here Graeme received a phone call from his card playing friends, after all it was the second Tuesday of the month and I was an apology. I opted out of joining them in a schnapps round as it was only 10.00 o'clock in the morning and most of the bars were closed!

We also decided not to have a coffee here and wait for our next stop which was Sligo ! Prior to now we were just inputting the name of the town into Google Maps for navigation and it would take us to random places on the outskirts of towns, so wising up, we now tried to select a place near the town centres.

Sligo has a large river running through the centre of town and we spent about 1.5 hours exploring the town leaving at 14:20 for the 2 hours drive to Galway. The plan being that we would have a quick look around the city centre before checking into our accommodation just on the other side of town.

As we approached Galway, the traffic got more and more congested and it was taking forever to get anywhere. For a small town of 300,000 people, the road system was just not coping for the afternoon traffic. We abandoned plans to look around Galway centre and moved onto our Bnb called Seacrest. It was 5.5 km from the centre of Galway, with beautiful views over the ocean and very peaceful.

Without having any cooking facilities at this stay, we went into the local village, Oranmore to a Tesco store where we bought salads, ham, rolls, muffins and a beer for dinner. Our 20 euro dinner was enjoyed on the deck back at Seacrest with million dollar views !

Our host Derrick at Seacrest was very friendly and we spent quite a bit of time exchanging stories.

Tomorrow's forecast is rain - of course!
