Day 16 - Dehli
Saturday 15th August, 2026 - Dehli
Going through immigration at the airport and we were asked where our declaration was ... What declaration? The one you are meant to fill out before you enter ! The officer was not very helpful but we could do it online so Graeme scanned the nearby QR code and filled it out. This meant getting through immigration was a little delayed.
We were met at the exit by a G Adventures rep who escorted us to our taxi, run by Women with Wheels, a group supporting disadvantaged women - a pretty basic taxi, but we were happy to support them. She even lifted our suitcases into the front seat along side her, and wouldn't accept any help from us.
Driving to our hotel, we went through some very squalid, rubbish filled streets with homeless sleeping everywhere and we are thinking what are we doing ? Anyway we got to the hotel, knocked on the door and were let in. One of the staff had just woken up from sleeping on the floor behind the reception counter. Yay - we had made it !!
Arriving late meant we got up late - at 9.30 am after having only 3 hours sleep. Reluctant to venture too far by ourselves, and after the long stressful day yesterday, we were happy to stay in and relax for a while.
We eventually ventured out looking for a coffee and there was a market street happening not far away. We were warned that we would be approached by men trying to drive us or being overly helpful to show us around... we were and we turned them all down. We had no luck locating a coffee, but did get a freshly made pizza from a street stall which became lunch.
It was also Indian Independence Day today, which meant it was a public holiday and there were thousands of Indians in town celebrating, so trying to do any sightseeing in the city would have been difficult so we decided to do that tomorrow.
