Day 10- Ella

Sunday 9th August, 2026 - Ella

Very nice breakfast this morning, great selection and for the first time on our trip there was porridge available ! Breakfast was down the street about 50 metres to another building belonging to our hotel - no big deal and it was next to the coffee shop where we could collect one on the way back !

Bus left at 9.00am and we hiked through a bush on our way to the nine arch bridge to see the 9:40 am train cross. It was a very pleasant walk and made it in plenty of time. The train rolled through on time as well, we took our photos, then took a different walking track on our way to Little Adam's Peak.

This was the second tallest peak in the area behind Ella Rock. Our itinerary included an option to hike up Ella Rock - a 5 hour round trip - noone on our tour was keen though. Little Adam's Peak was a little commercialised with a zip line, sky walk, big swing out over the valley and apparently archery and air gun galleries ! A few of our group did the zip line, but most of us trekked to the top of the peak and back.

We both had a coffee after we had descended. Another walk back to our bus and returned to Ella for a free afternoon, part of which included sorting out our bags as we would be heading into Yala National Park, camping for the night and we could only take in a small overnight pack with essentials, our big suitcases to stay on the bus. Bags sorted, but Tania was not feeling too well with stomach rumblings. We didn't go out for any dinner, she rested and eventually vomitted which helped settle the discomfort. I gave her some electrolytes, and asked one our group to bring back some ginger beer for her - this in addition also helped the situation. Thankfully it was only a stomach upset and not any diarrhea ! Graeme had been eating and drinking mostly the same as Tania, but luckily not affected.

I am surprised given what you have been doing, that it took to day 10 for a stomach bug to hit. Thankfully it appears to have been isolated to Tania rather than both of you and only been relatively minor and short-lived. Let’s hope that is the end of it and no more for the remainder of the trip.
