Day 1 Wednesday 7th June 2023
Up early at the motel at Perth Airport, onto the airport shuttle bus at 6.00 am ! Flight left on scheduloe ay 7.35 and arrived slightly early to Broome at 9:45 am.
Picked up our "Broome Broome" rental car, A Suzuki Baleno, and started exploring the town. Checked out the main street and shopping district, known as Chinatown, drove to a large camping store before checking in to our motel, Moonlight Bay Suites. After settling in, went for a swim - our first swim for 10 years we reckon, but after the crap weather on the trip over and now in the warm sunshine, it was great. The pool was refreshing - read cool!!
Today also happened to be Graeme's birthday AND our friends from Hallett Cove, Phillip and Liz were in Broome as part of their 6 month caravan holiday around western Australia. We arranged to meet up at the Golf Club for dinner to celebrate and watch the Staircase to the Moon phenonum which scheduled for today as well.
All the planets were lining up for Graeme's birthday, except the clouds ! Which put a distinct dampner on the Staircase effect. Oh Well everything else was great.
Day 2 Thursday 8th June 2023
Today we did some more exploring of Broome, Gantheaune Point(dinosaur footprints and rock pools), Cable Beach, Chinese and Japanses cemetries, Streeters Jetty on Dampier Creek.
Had a burger lunch at Roeys - also know as the Roebuck Hotel, Cehcked out tht market at Town Square, then back to motel room for a rest.
Booked some tickets for the Sunset Cinema, the oldest, continuously running outdoor cinema in the world! John Farnham the Movie was on and it was great !!
Day 3 Friday 9th June 2023
Today we did some more exploring of Broome, Gantheaune Point(dinosaur footprints and rock pools), Cable Beach, Chinese and Japanses cemetries, Streeters Jetty on Dampier Creek.
Today checked ot of Moonlight Suites, did some last minute shopping in town, filled up with petrol and returned the car to the airport. The plan was that Outback Spiriti would meet us at the airport and take us to our tour motel ! We arrived to Broome at 10.00 am 2 days ago, picked up rental car, so returning it at the same time 2 days later, expecting Outback Spirit collection at 10.00 am - as requested !
Wrong - Graeme's fault for not checking our itininery, pick up time, was listed as 13.00 - not sure why ! So rather than sit at the airport for 3 hours, we got a taxi to our new motel at Cable Beach. Needless to say, we were too early to check in, so caught the community bus back into Chinatown and went to the Dragonfly Cafe for coffee and lunch - very nice.
A couple we met at the Golf Club and they gave us a lift back to our motel. We had another swim, and got ready for the first day tour dinner !!
