Western Turkey – Marmaris
Western Turkey – Marmaris
Day 17 Saturday 2nd September 2023
Today was a drving day to Marmaris, Google said 3 hours, but it took us 3.5 hours. We travelled through picturesque mountainside country and fertile valleys. It took at little longer becuase of the winding routes up and down the mountains, but also because of some roadworks along the way.

We arrived at our accommodation at 13:00, checked in and went for a walk through the city centre of Marmaris, very much a coastal resort town. Not sure why I say this, but I get the impression there are mainly English and Russian tourists here.

Lots of cruising, diving and boating / water activities here, a nice old town, and a very civilised under cover bazaar that was cheaper than the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, and less crowded. Marmaris is more modern than any other city we have visited in Turkey.

After our walk, we had dinner at Ali Baba Kebab Cafe - naturally !

I expect that could be because there are a lot of English and Russian tourists – not to mention the occasional Aussie or two.
