We were planning a sleep in today but got woken by an early morning call from our grand daughter. Still dragged our toes to get going though. Tania went out looking locally for a barber to cut our hair, but it turns out they are ALL closed on Mondays. We also decided to use this morning to sort out our Pompei visit and tour for Wednesday.
We set off to explore the rest of Naples which ended being over 25,000 steps. Tania is trying to kill Graeme again !
Walked around the crib / nativity model creation centre, the Spanish Quarter, walked through a very long tunnel, found the Galleria - a copy of the Milan Galleria and very impressive, then walked along the coast, past the cruise ship dock.
Back at our apartment in Caserta by 18:30.
Impressions of Naples - a very old city and it shows ! Buildings are very powerful with huge arch entrances into internal courtyards, and so many of them. There is rubbish in the streets, and yes, dirty in places, but not filthy ! It has a population of 2.2 million people, but it feels a lot more than that. I read somewhere that Naples is trying hard to reverse its image of being a dirty and dangerous place for tourists, and I would to agree that is a big European city, very similar to most other big European city with a rich history. We enjoyed our visit here.
