Greece – Mykonos
Greece – Mykonos
Day 30 Friday 15th September 2023
Today was a travel day to Mykonos via Fast Ferries ferry leaving at 14:30. After a breakfast in our room, we packed and left our bags at reception for a later collection. Headed off to our favorite coffe shop for a latte, then made our way to the beach to sit and have some lunch. While there we met some people who were on the bus tour with us, with their 3 yo daughter Charlotte. Nice place to pass the time.

At 13:00 headed back to collect our bags and head towards the port to await our ferry. It actually left on time and it was an 1.25 hour trip to Mykonos, where we had pre-arranged a driver to collect us and transport us to our hotel. All went smoothly.

After a warm welcome by hotel staff, and a quick check to see that our shower was bigger than our last one, (which it was), also noted we actually had a seaview from our room, and a great view over the harbour from the hotel terrace. We dropped our bags and headed straight into the town centre to start exploring. The walk from our hotel is only 5 minutes, BUT it is down a very, very steep hill, which means getting back will take a tad longer. There were some huge passenger ships sitting in the harbour with tenders bringing them ashore to spend part of the day. Our first impressions of Mykonos were better than expected - not crowded (but that could be the time of year), not really glitzy, very clean streets and buildings, people very friendly. Graeme kept looking for all the blue domed houses seen in pictures - but couldn't find them anywhere.

Weather is great, nice cool breezes off the water and around 26 - 27 degrees. Perfect !!

Day 31 Saturday 16th September 2023
We had all day to explore more of the town centre, walked most streets, sat at the port, shouted ourselves a sangria in Little Venice and enjoyed a nice pasta dinner.
First stop of the morning was to check out the iconic windmills that sit on top of the hill overlooking the bay and visible from almost everywhere in town.

These windmills were built by the Venetians, mostly in the 16th century and used the wind to mill wheat. Mykonos was a very poor island and the milling of wheat was an important source of income. As we could attest they were perfectly situated to take full advantage of the wind power.

While having dinner a pink pelican strolled by twice, bearing in mind we are in the middle of the town, it turns out Petros is a celebrity in Mykonos. We asked why pink ? - because he eats shrimps !

A very comfortable town to explore, with the wind picking up a notch today especially along the water's edge.

60s Lyrical: One of these mornings/You gonna be wiping your weeping eyes

IQ: My 60-page newspaper was missing the page 19 sheet. What other pages were missing along with that?

Apparently Mykonos has a bustling party scene, nightlife, and LGBTQ+ welcoming ambiance with beach clubs that rave throughout the night, often past dawn. I expect a detailed report.

I didn’t know the lyrical either. I was surprised to find out it was Mustang Sally.

As for the IQ test, I got the same answer as you, but it was not the given answer.
They are wrong.
