Day 73 Saturday 28th October 2023 - Peschici & Termoli

Our anticipation of another delicious breakfast this morning didn't quite get fulfilled. Francesco was on a day off and his mother filled in for breakfast duty. Francesco had passed on the message we would like more savoury, (in our meaning more eggs and ham), but what we got was more savoury in the form of a plate of sliced ham, cheese, and bread spread with savoury tomato paste ! Not terrible, but a bit of a let down. The croissant was nice, fresh fruit was grapes and the juice this morning was blood orange. Coffee was luke warm. Still for 8 euro each we couldn't complain !

We were also hoping to purchase some of their delicious olive oil to bring home, but they sold it in 1 litre clean skin bottles and not commercially sealed, an expectation from Australian Customs - what a pity !

After paying our bill and packing the car, we headed for Peschici, a village not far from where we were staying, about a 30 minute drive through forrest covered mountains, then olive groves and lots of winding roads. Got to Peschici, found a free park and walked into centro, buying some bread on the way. Stopped at a cafeteria just outside the old town walls for coffee, then wandered in for a look around. Again a very quaint hilltop village looking out over cliffs and down to some pretty nice beaches.

Back on the road we headed for Rodi Garganico, once again a pleasant scenic drive along the mountainside views over the coast, but on arriving at Rodi, a quick look told us it wasn't worth staying, so reset the GPS to Termoli and headed there. This was just over an hours drive further on, via back roads, avoiding the odd tractor or two. We didn't drive across the isthmus, but scouted around the lake. This area was flat alluvial plains growing vegetables and fruit. We got back onto a reasonable highway after some time.

Arrived in Termoli around 14:00, got a coffee and toilet stop, checked out the main street and old town, same same but different. Being after 13:30, most businesses were closed until 16:30 for their afternoon siesta ! We found our accommodation with a supermarket just across the street and bought some supplies for dinner. The couple running the BnB were very nice and we chatted for a while about our travels, They gave us a plate of fruit, grapes and a persimmon !
